Code of Ethics

Code of Ethics

I feel for the welfare of the CANE CORSO and my Cane Corso particularly comes before any other consideration to do with my interest in the breed. Because this belief is fundamental, I, as a member of the Cane Corso Club of Canada, agree to the code of ethics as described below:

ON BREEDING
  • Maintain the best possible standards of health and care of stock, included but not limited to proper veterinary care and adequate quality food and water.
  • Breed only from pure stock that is physically and mentally sound. Females not being bred before 18 months and males not before 12 months of age.
  • No stud dog will be knowingly bred to any bitch whose owner is directly or indirectly involved with any puppy broker, puppy mill, pet store, litter lot sales or any other commercial enterprises whose business is involved in like activities.
  • Breed ethically, always to improve the breed
  • Encourage genetic testing on all stock retained or sold for breeding purposes to ensure they are free of inheritable diseases.
  • Never ingeminate a breeding that has produced a serious genetic defect in the offspring.
  • Always register each litter and maintain complete breeding records.

ON SALES:
  • Maintain a reasonable price within your local, which price should also be compatible with national sales prices.
  • Intelligently and honestly classify stock as show prospects, working prospect or pet companions. If in doubt, seek help from a knowledgeable breeder to classify the litter. This does not mean charging more or less for any of the before mentioned but representing your puppies honestly to potential buyers.
  • Withhold registration papers on any puppy that may be a potential detriment to the breed if the owner intends to breed it. However, the seller must keep on file the registration available for future needs, such as obedience points, or the eventuality that the dog may in future meet the conformation standard of the breed. This withholding of the registration papers must be in written agreement and signed by both the buyer and the seller.
  • All advertising shall be honest and in no way fraudulent, misrepresentation or misleading.
  • Supply records to the buyer regarding immunization, worming and future care and feeding, and a WRITTEN HEALTH GUARANTEE.
  • No Cane Corso will be knowingly sold to puppy brokers, pet stores or puppy mills or agents thereof

CONFORMATION SHOWS/WORKING EVENTS/COMPANION EVENTS:
  • Exhibit your Cane Corso whenever possible, and encourage the presentation of high quality stock.
  • Be willing to help the novice exhibitor and breeder. Always use constructive and honest criticism.
  • Good sportsmanship must be present in all events at all times.

INTEGRITY AND TACT TOWARDS OTHER MEMBERS:
  • Never discuss in any derogatory manner any other members, or their Cane Corso with another member or prospective Cane Corso owner. Development of working relationships with other members and the general public interested in the breed should be based on mutual trust and respect for the betterment of the breed.

BREEDER'S DIRECTORY AND GUIDELINES
  • To acknowledge that being a breeder necessarily includes the responsibility of preserving and protecting the breed and to recognize that participation in the breed beyond breeding represents interest, knowledge, dedication, care, and commitment.
  • Acknowledge that inclusion in the Breeder’s Directory and participation in the Litter Announcements requires adherence to the Code of Ethics and each year taking an active part in the club through: attending club meetings and serving on committees; organizing and helping out at sanctioned matches and shows; taking part in judge’s seminars, breed presentation days, and organized ‘fun day’ activities.

Note: Latitude regarding the COE requirement to show one’s dogs is given to club members in those areas of the country where shows are not readily available and to club members who are unable to actively show their dogs due to physical or health reasons. Members falling under this latitude are expected to help out the club in other avenues as noted above.

Thanks for stopping by.
